When it comes to basic obedience training, choosing the right commands is essential. Simple commands like "sit," "stay," and "come" are usually enough for basic training. These can be supplemented with more complex commands if desired, such as “leave it” or “go to bed."  It is important to choose unique commands that will not get confused with other words in regular conversation.

What are Some Basics of Dog Training?

Reward Positive Behaviors

Proper rewards are an important part of successful dog obedience training. Treats are usually enough to keep pets motivated, but positive reinforcement with toys can also be used in addition to food rewards.Rewarding good behavior with food or toy rewards will help build trust between you both while signaling good behavior that has been done correctly

Establish Routines

Setting up daily routines can be integral in helping establish the desired behaviors from your pet during training sessions. Practice the same commands several times a day at consistent times each time and provide food or toy rewards when appropriate. This will help reinforce positive behaviors in dogs and lead them toward success when it comes time for more difficult tasks.

Be Patient

Different breeds of dogs are bred for different tasks which may require different strategies. If your pet is struggling, take a step back and re-evaluate the approach before getting frustrated or punishing your dog - they'll thank you later!
